Statement on “The Vietnam War Summit”
hosted by Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas
According to its website, from April 26 to 28, 2016; the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas will host The Vietnam War Summit to honor services of Vietnam War veterans and offer unvarnished look at the Vietnam War and its legacy. A said conference was supposed to include various voices from different political tendencies and generations of the Vietnam War. On the contrary, guest speakers include mostly those who tried to sell out South Vietnam; the anti Vietnam War components; the Vietnam Ambassador to the United States; and the Vietnamese doing businesses with Vietnamese Communists. Among the speakers are Henry Kissinger, John Kerry, Tom Hayden, Peter Arnett, Pham Quang Vinh…There are absolutely no representatives of the American veterans who fought in Vietnam, and the Vietnamese American refugees in the United States.
Thus, we, The Vietnamese Nationalist Party (VNP) – a political and revolutionary party best known for the persistent struggling and fighting for freedom and democracy in Vietnam for more than 89 years – solemnly declare to the Vietnamese community living in the country and abroad and to the Americans as follows:
1) Communism is a crime against humanity. The sacrifices of millions of Vietnamese civilians and South Vietnam army personnel, and more than 58 thousands of US service personnel are righteous to defend freedom against Communist invasions from 1954 to 1975.
2) However, while the Vietnamese Communists received strong military supports from Russia and China, the US government was pressured by the anti-war groups to withdraw all forces from South Vietnam following the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. South Vietnam was left to fight alone with few military resources to spare, and finally fell to the Communists on April 30, 1975.
3) The consequences of the Vietnam War were that hundreds of thousands of military personnel of the Republic of Vietnam were subjected to indefinite imprisonment and exile in re-education camps; that millions of Vietnamese tried to escape communist dictatorship to look for freedom; and that refugees lost their lives in the jungles and oceans. All had shocked the conscience of humankind.
4) The people of Vietnam are currently under the communists’ brutal dictatorship which is at its highest violation of human rights, and frequently resulted in the US Government reports and condemnation as the country with human rights violations.
5) The Vietnam War has left a syndrome to the American people. Today’s commentators and international historians have concluded that South Vietnam fell to the Communists mostly by the anti-war groups, and by the inconsistencies in the foreign policy practiced by the US.
Based on the above facts, the Vietnamese Nationalist Party provides the following confirmations:
1) One of the purposes of the summit from April 26 to 28, 2016 is to “offer unvarnished look at the Vietnam war and its legacy;” but the Summit organizing committee only invited speakers from the anti-war groups to continue and facilitate the rhetoric of their propaganda to the Americans and Vietnamese. Thus, the outcome of the meeting will not reflect its intended purposes. The organizing committee demonstrates the lack of fairness and extension of democracy; has bias against the truth; and misguides the general public.
2) The invitation of Mr. Pham Quang Vinh – the Vietnam Ambassador to the United States – to speak at the “The Vietnam War Summit” is deemed inappropriate because Mr. Vinh only represents the communist government which was not elected by the Vietnamese people; and he (Mr. Vinh) is appointed by the Vietnamese Communist Party – the henchmen of the communist China to exercise its brutal tyranny against the people of Vietnam.
3) Freedom, democracy, and human rights are important priorities to the US foreign policy. Therefore, the United States should emphasize human rights as priority in its trade policy and cooperation with the Communist government of Vietnam.
4) The Vietnamese and Americans with keenness and vigilance will not allow the anti war components to collude with the ruling Vietnamese Communists to betray the sacrifices for freedom and democracy of millions of Vietnamese civilians and army personnel as well as the sacrifices of more than 58 thousands of US service personnel.
Solemnly declared in the United States of America on the 24st day of April, 2016
Le, Thanh Nhan
Chairman of the Central Executive Council of Vietnamese Nationalist Party
